Hueckman sets new scoring record in Burns’ win over Irrigon

Allie Hueckman set a new single-game scoring record with 38 points in the Hilanders’ 64-41 win over Irrigon on Friday, Feb. 1, at Burns High School.

Hueckman dropped in nine points in the first quarter, 14 in the second period, four in the third, and 11 in the final stanza. Hueckman’s scoring barrage breaks the record of 35, set by Catherine Clemens in 2015.

Burns took control of the game early, leading 16-5 at the end of the first quarter, and extending the advantage to 36-14 by halftime.

The Lady Hilanders opened with an 8-2 run after the break, and led 51-25 going into the final period.

Irrigon did outscore Burns 16-13 over the final eight minutes, but it wasn’t enough, as Burns picked up the victory.

Shai Skinner added 11 points for Burns, Mileah SkunkCap and Alicyn Hoke each had four, Aundraya Ceja three, and McKenzi Hoyt and Kaiden Raif two apiece.

The following night, Saturday, Feb. 2, Burns hosted Riverside and came away with a 48-26 victory.

The win boosted the Lady Hilanders to 8-0 in the Eastern Oregon League, and 21-1 overall. Burns finishes up its regular-season schedule with league games at Nyssa on Thursday, Feb. 7, and at Umatilla on Saturday, Feb. 9.
