Richard William Ingraham Jr.

Richard William Ingraham Jr. was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Napa, Calif.

He followed his dream of a career in hotel and restaurant management, graduating from San Francisco City College. Shortly after college, Dick was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent two years serving his country during the Korean conflict at Fort Ord, Calif. He met his wife, Jan Forsyth, in 1954, and they were married in 1956.

He joined his father, Richard Sr., in the import/export business during the ’50s. Following those years, Dick managed two different resorts in the Sierra Nevada mountains: Sardine Lake Lodge and Donner Summit Lodge.

In 1970, he moved his family of five to Bend, taking a position as the beverage manager at Sunriver Lodge, followed by partnering in the Dry Dock seafood restaurant in Bend. His background eventually led to selling restaurant equipment for both Oregon Equipment and Curtis Restaurant Equipment. During these years, he also worked many part-time jobs at Mt. Bachelor in the Castle Keep, Egan Lodge, and the Blue Lodge, allowing for his three kids to develop a deep passion for skiing at Mt. Bachelor.

Pursuing his lifelong passion of hunting ducks and geese, in 1999, he and Jan moved to Burns, purchasing a small ranch outside of town “in the flyway,” followed immediately by a “temporary” 10-year job of managing the Humboldt Hunt Club in Orovada, Nev., where he met many valued friends.

Dick was a member and elder of Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Burns. He served for many years in Ducks Unlimited, including as the state chairman. He was a member of Delta Waterfowl, the NRA, and the Elks.

Dick is survived by his wife, Jan Ingraham of 63 years; daughter, Katie Rowles (Charlie); son, Jeff Ingraham (Jennifer); grandchildren, Scott Rowles (Amy), Heidi Rowles Friesen (Daniel), Kiersten Rowles, Andrew Ingraham, and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by son, Richard William Ingraham III; father, R.W. Ingraham Sr.; mother, Marjory Jackson Ingraham; sister, Marion Voorhees; brothers, Charles J. Ingraham and William R. Ingraham; along with 10 golden retrievers.

Dick’s celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Burns.

In addition, there will be a celebration at a later date in Bend at the Elks Lodge, 63120 NE Boyd Acres Road.
