Margaret Ellen Johnson Teague passed away March 15.

Margaret was born Sept. 4, 1929, in Vale to Sylvia Evelyn Thomson Johnson and James Roy Johnson. She grew up with her sister, Mary, on a working cattle ranch near Vale. Her great-grandmother was one of the five pioneer women to help name Vale. Margie (Margaret) spent many adventurous hours with her cousins and best buddies, Buz Shammy, Gerald Johnson, and Annie Bishop.

After leaving the Vale area, she moved to Dayville with her mother, sister, and step father, Fred Weesner. Later, the family relocated to Seneca where she attended elementary school. Margaret graduated from Grant County High in John Day in 1947. She met Ruel Teague, who worked for Edward Hines Lumber Co., and they were married later that year.

In 1950, with daughter Peggy in tow, they moved to Burns. Margaret was a homemaker with four small children until 1961. She and Ruel acquired a small two-room building, and Ruel Teague Motor Co. had its beginning. Together they established other businesses: H & H Petroleum, High Desert Aviation, etc.

Margaret enjoyed serving her community on the city council and was the secretary/treasurer for the High Desert Old Time Fiddlers and Oregon Old Time Fiddlers. She enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Ruel; four children, Peggy Asmussen, Patsy Olson, Paula Cook, and Pete Teague; foster son, John Tyler; grandchildren, Deana Gilcrist, Kellie Phillips, Alison Freeman, Matthew Harvey, Stacey DeFord, Montie Reynolds, Mike, Marcus, and Malachai Teague, Marci Judd, Melanie Smith, Michelle Gibson, Mindy Teague, and Angela Tyler; and 20 great-grandchildren. Among other family and friends are Kerry and Mark Drewett, Janie Miller, Rita Miller, Cliff and Alice Gunderson with daughters, Terry Fretwell and Mary Lequerica.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Faith Baptist Church in Hines.
