The Hilander volleyball team defeated the Vale Vikings in four sets 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 25-18, for first place of the Eastern Oregon League on Saturday, Oct. 23.
Coming into Saturday’s game, Vale (7-2) defeated Nyssa earlier in the day to determine who would get to play the Hilanders for the championship.
Burns (24-3) was looking to keep their undefeated league play going as they hosted the Vikings Saturday evening.
The Hilanders were able to hold off the Viking to earn their fourth consecutive Eastern Oregon League title.

Kaitlyn Wright led the Hilanders in kills with 21, followed by Mackenzie King with 12, Caitlyn Horrell with eight, Akylah Kaino with five, and Ashley Wright with three.
Horrell led the team with 100 percent serve.
Kaino ended with seven blocks, Horrell had five, and K. Wright and A. Wright had two apiece.
Macy Temple and King led the team with 13 digs, followed by Lacie Tiller, Kaya Dobson, and A. Wright with five each. K. Wright, Kaino, and Horrell each had one.

A. Wright finished with 38 of the team’s 42 assists.
The Hilanders will head into the playoffs as the first-place team from the Eastern Oregon League.
