Dick Anderson 1946-2020

Dick Anderson was born on Jan. 27, 1946 to A.D. (Dewey) and Hattie Anderson, in Lakeview. The family moved to Prairie City, and then to Hines in 1962. Dick fit right into the area, as he loved hunting, fishing and repairing cars.  Dick was a natural athlete and running was his forte’. His Burns High School 440 Relay Team’s record time still stands today, after 56 years.

Dick had a gentle heart and a way about him that made him try to be a friend to everyone and help those in need.  The world was a beter place with him in it.

Dick met the love of his life, Dolores, in 2002. They married in Dec. 2004, and moved back to Hines from Portland to care for his mother, Hattie. Dolores was his soul mate. They laughed, joked, made salsa together, and had one of the best gardens and raspberry patches in Harney County.

In retirement, Dick didn’t stay quiet for long. He was on the Hines City Council, then co-owned and operated the coffee shop near the High School for a couple of years.  He also did work for himself: building a workshop (both he and Dolores were seen up on the roof putting rivets in). They built a retaining wall around the property, remodeled the house, and enjoyed life as it came.  While sitting in the kitchen, he was able to enjoy watching all the birds, squirrels, and occasional deer that visited their home. He loved to feed the squirrels and quail.  The quail would follow him up the driveway to the house.

Dick passed away Dec. 27, 2020 due to complications from Diabetes. To mourn his passing, he leaves his loving wife, Dolores; his daughters, Mitzi and Tammy; son, Aron; step-children, Rick and Shawna; grandchildren, August and Austin; sister, Shanon; in-laws, Diana, Ruth and Jimmie; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceeded in death by his parents, his brother, Lonie; and niece, Lori.

A Memorial Srevice is being planned for a later date.
