Mary Frances Sumner Beamer 1938-2018 Obituary January 9, 2019January 9, 20190 Mary Frances Sumner Beamer of Oakridge passed away Dec. 28. Mary was born June 17, 1938, in Warren, Ark., to Fletcher Kahle Sumner and Ethel McGuire Bourne. She married Harold “Hal” Lee Beamer Jr. June 18, 1960. Mary graduated from Wytheville High School in Virginia in 1955. She attended Radford College receiving a bachelor of science in education in 1959. Mary held many occupations during her life, as a teacher, sewing instructor, office administrator, emergency services dispatcher, and children’s services caseworker. Mary was an active member of the Oakridge United Methodist Church, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and established a grief support group after the passing of her husband. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, and knitting, and she was an annual participant in the local Sugar Plum Festival. Mary is survived by sons, Mark S. Beamer and wife, Tracy, of Solvang, Calif., Harold “Hal” L. Beamer III and wife, Kerri, of Albany, and Benjamin S. Beamer of Oakridge; along with four grandchildren, Jonathan, Alyssa, Nathaniel, and Molly. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2015. Services have been set at Oakridge United Methodist Church, Sunday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the Oakridge United Methodist Church.
