Jose De La Rosa 1951 – 2024 Obituary December 4, 2024December 4, 20240 Jose De La Rosa, a resident of Dilley, Texas, and a long-time member of the community in Burns, passed away on Nov. 16, 2024, after suffering a heart attack. Born on Sept. 5, 1951, in Owosso, Mich., Jose was the beloved son of Benselada De La Rosa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Benselada (2006), his two sons, Justin (2012) and Juan (1991), and his brothers, Richard and Jerry De La Rosa (2023). Jose is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah De La Rosa, who resides in Burns, their family includes his daughters, Vanessa De La Rosa (Jonathon) of Burns and Josephine Chavarria (married to Juan) of Eagle Pass, Texas. He is also survived by his sons, Joe De La Rosa of Las Vegas, Nev., and Tony De La Rosa of Klamath Falls. The vibrant De La Rosa family continues through his siblings—John, Armando, Jesse, Sylvia, Janie, and Sandy—who all live in Dallas, Texas. Additionally, Jose was a proud grandfather to 17 grandchildren and had the joy of four great-grandchildren. In 1983, Jose married his soulmate, Deborah, in Dallas, Texas. He enjoyed a successful career as a journeyman carpenter, dedicating eight years to crafting high-rise buildings—a testament to his skill and hard work. In 1990, he moved to Burns, where he served the Harney County School District as a facility manager for six years. His professional journey also included valuable contributions to Mount Angel Abbey, the Burns Paiute Tribe, and Ashley Manor. After 13 years of dedicated service with the Oregon School Employees Association, he retired in 2011, receiving a plaque in his honor that continues to be proudly displayed. One of Jose’s greatest passions was his love for classic Chevy trucks, which he meticulously built and restored from the frame up, pouring his heart and soul into each project. He also enjoyed competing in drag racing with top fuel dragsters at the Woodburn, drag strip. Throughout his life, he was a devoted husband and father, always present for his children and eager to lend a helping hand. He loved waking early to work on outdoor projects and shared his love for hunting and fishing with his wife and grandchildren, creating lasting memories in the great outdoors. In November 2023, Jose, along with his wife Deborah and their loyal dog Buddy, relocated to Dilley, Texas, the birthplace of his mother. This move brought him closer to his siblings and long-lost relatives he had recently reconnected with, allowing him to share precious moments with family that brought him immense joy. In the final year of his life, Jose was grateful for the opportunity to be nearer to loved ones and kept himself busy with various projects alongside his wife. Jose was a man with a kind heart and an incredible work ethic, always ready to tackle any problem that came his way. His spirit of tough love and generosity positively impacted many lives, as he consistently offered support to those in need. Although he lived a fulfilling life, his absence creates a deep void for his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren, especially for his loyal dog, Buddy. The loss is profound, and he will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral services held.
