Helen Patton, longtime Burns resident, wife, mother, and grandmother passed away in Boise, Idaho on Oct. 15, 2024. She was 91 years young. Her family were all able to say goodbye to her and will always remember her strength, inspiration, and the significant impact she had on our lives.  

Helen was born in Westhope, N.D. in 1933. Her family moved to Oregon when she was young and she ended up in Burns in 1953 when she married Charles Patton. Helen lived over 70 years in Harney County raising her two children, Mark and Shauna, and helping to raise her two grandchildren, Shaylyn and Cole Potter. She taught second grade for many years and retired as the Slater Elementary school principal.  Teaching young students and community service were her lifelong passions. Helen loved life, her family and her many friends.  She will be greatly missed and be forever in many people’s hearts.

Helen is survived by her son, Mark and his wife, Janice, and her two grandchildren, Shaylyn and Cole. Her daughter, Shauna and her husband, Charles proceeded her in death. 

A Celebration of Life for Helen will be held Feb. 21, 2025, at the Valley Golf Club in Hines from 4-6 p.m.  This would have been Helen’s 92nd birthday.  All those wishing to pay their respects and celebrate her life are welcomed.
