Stanton Evan “Butch” Keefer 1940 – 2024

Stanton Evan “Butch” Keefer, a loving and adventurous soul, passed away on Nov. 19, 2024. Born on Dec. 7, 1940, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Stanton was a beacon of light, love, and laughter in the lives of everyone who knew him. With a compassionate heart and a humorous spirit, he left an indelible mark on the world through his decades of service as an elementary school teacher in the Harney County and Weber School Districts. His passion for education was evident in the numerous accolades he received, including “Outstanding Educator of the Year”; at Hines Elementary School and “Boss of the Year”. True to his adventurous spirit, Stanton was a Golden Gloves Champion and completed nine triathlons and a marathon. His love for sports extended to his role as a basketball coach, where he impacted many lives.

Stanton was a pillar of his community and had a deep love for Christ and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as Bishop, High Councilman, and in the Young Men’s organization. His faith was a guiding light in his life, and he lived by the scripture, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Stanton’s passion for service was not confined to the church alone; he was an outstanding volunteer for kids and families and received an Appreciation Award from the Paiute Indian Reservation. His book, Butch, is a testament to his love for sharing knowledge and life experiences.

Stanton’s love for adventure was unparalleled. Every year, he took his grandchildren on thrilling outings, creating memories that will forever be cherished. He was a friend to strangers and had an aura of warmth that made everyone feel welcome. His love for his wife, Anita, was a beautiful testament to his loving nature. Their bond was precious to observe, as he always ensured she was cared for and treated like a queen. Their love for their two Labradoodles, Josie and Charlie, was unfounded, as some may say they were treated better than their own children. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife, Anita; his sisters, Sharon Zarbnisky and Juli (Norm) Weiss; his children, Paul (Melissa) Keefer, Lisa Young, Kristine (Mike) Wilson, and Jennifer (Greg) Eastham; and his many grandchildren, Eliza, Hunter, Curtis, Hannah, Trevor, Brandon, PJ, Jlyn, Evan, and Will; along with his five great-grandchildren.

Stanton was preceded in death by his parents, Stanton Keefer and Orlene Evans, and his daughter, Andrea Keefer.

A viewing for Stan was held on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at Myers Mortuary, 845 South Washington Boulevard, Ogden, Utah, 84404. A second viewing took place on Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at the Harrisville 8th Ward, 113 Childs Ave., Ogden, Utah, 84404, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.

As we remember Stanton, we celebrate his life and the joy he brought to all of us. We encourage all who knew and loved Stan to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page as we remember and celebrate his remarkable life. His legacy of love, adventure, laughter, and compassion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
