Over the weekend of June 22-23, four local Native high school lacrosse players along with two former players serving as assistant coaches, participated in the Oregon Open Lacrosse Tournament held at Delta Park in Portland.

These players and coaches were part of the Pacific Northwest Native Lacrosse high school team. Burns lacrosse head coach Rick Roy said, “This was a first in the West and Pacific Northwest, an All-Native High School Lacrosse Team competing in a tournament.  Players and coaches from over twenty Tribal Nations came together and competed against some very good and high priced summer club programs from throughout the PNW. The PNW Native Lacrosse team competed very well and ended up 3-2-1 over the weekend and were tournament runner-ups, losing the Championship Game 10-7 to a very good Lilac City (Spokane) team. Not too bad for a group of kids that never played together and only had one short practice the day before the tournament.”

There are two more scheduled tournaments that the PNW Native Lacrosse team will participate in this fall, one in Vancouver, B.C. and another in Tacoma, Wash.
