Archaeology Roadshow co-stars cultural cuisine and hometown musicians Arts and Entertainment Community June 12, 2024June 12, 20240 Submitted photo The Old Time Fiddlers played throughout the Archaeology & Culture Keepers Roadshow last year. MJ Wallis for Burns Times-Herald The Fifth annual Archaeology & Culture Keepers Roadshow launches at 10 a.m. on June 22, at the Hines City park and runs until 3 p.m. The theme this year is a favorite subject, “The Archaeology of Food.” Presenters showcase varied aspects of the study of human history and prehistory, with booths ranging from the Rimrock Draw dig and artifact display to Ball canning jar displays, fire lookout food, edible plants, and the popular atlatl throw, a means by which early hunters procured food. And so much more! Our community’s vibrant cultures will be well represented. Booths with artisan demonstrations bring first-hand experiences, and insights that put cultural context to archaeological finds. And bring your artifacts and heirlooms for regional and resident experts to appraise. You’ll gain a new appreciation for your treasured trinkets and attic artifacts. Cultural appreciation takes a ‘hands-on’ approach with the many food vendors coming to the event. Basque chorizos, Indian tacos and Chinese dumplings, as well as all-American sandwiches, snow-cones, cupcakes and cookies, coffee and tea and sodas make for an appealing menu from which to choose your culinary adventures. While you meander through booths or munch on lessons in ethos, enjoy the musical talents of local performers. The Sage Rats, the Old Time Fiddlers and the eclectic band, “White Lightning,” will play throughout the day. So bring your favorite picnic blanket and camp chair, some sunscreen and an appetite for learning and fun to the Archaeology Roadshow at Hines Park on June 22, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
