Falconer Hank Minor introduces his female Harris hawk, Molly, during a presentation at the Harney County Library.

Hank Minor, a falconer from Sisters, presented an engaging and informative look at the art and practice of falconry at the Harney County Library on Sept. 27.

After a brief history of the sport and the types of raptors, quarry, equipment, and facilities employed, Minor brought out the star of the show — his female Harris hawk and hunting partner, Molly — to share stories of hunting with these magnificent birds of prey.

Minor is a licensed Master Falconer, having actively flown hawks on game for the past 15 years. He is a member of the Oregon Falconers Association, and is a past President of the New York State Falconry Association. Minor has trained and flown several types of raptors over the years and has hunted his birds in states across the country. He considers his ability to practice falconry a privilege, and looks at each outing with his hawks as an opportunity to learn and improve his art.
