Hines Middle School finishes fourth at State Tournament

The Hines Middle School wrestling team finished fourth at the 2022 Middle School State Tournament.

The Hines Middle School wrestling team finished fourth out of 127 teams competing at the 2022 Middle School State Tournament on Saturday, March 12 at Woodburn High School.

Joe Weil took home first place in the 195-pound weight class by pinning Angel Valenzuela from Skyview Middle School in Bend.

Cannon Kemper placed second in the 110-pound weight class. Liam Shepherd finished third at 75 pounds. Preston Hill placed fourth at 117 pounds, and Thomas Winn placed sixth at 110 pounds. Ryik Simpson (90), Tyson Breshears (160), Wesley Graham (150), Lucian Miller (125), and Hadley Gunderson (90) did not place.

Individual results for Hines are as follows:

75 B — Liam Shepherd won by fall, 3:32; won by decision, 7-0; lost by decision, 6-3; won by fall, 0:14; won by fall, 0:30.

90 B — Ryik Simpson lost by fall, 3:51; won by fall, 1:09; lost by decision, 5-0.

110 B — Thomas Winn won by fall, 0:36; lost by decision, 8-3; won by fall, 0:24; won by decision, 8-4; lost by fall, 1:58; lost by decision, 11-4.

110 B — Cannon Kemper won by major decision, 8-0; won by fall, 2:19; won by decision, 6-4; lost by decision, 7-6.

117 B — Preston Hill lost by decision, 4-1; won by forfeit; won by fall, 1:03; won by injury default; won by fall, 0:45; lost by decision, 4-0.
