Clarence “Bud” Smith 1933 – 2025

Clarence “Bud” Smith of Burns, passed away on Jan. 6, 2025, at the age of 91.

Clarence was born on June 25, 1933, in Hines, to Troy and Louise Smith. He was the youngest of 11 children.  After high school, he went to work for the Edward Hines Lumber Company, until he joined the Navy in 1953.  He was honorably discharged in 1957 and married his wife, Gail Lambert, in August of that year.

They lived in Hines, where they had two sons, Darrell R. Smith, and Rickey W. Smith.  They also lived and worked in Battle Mtn, and Jordan Valley, but ended up returning to Burns, where they enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and time with their family.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gail; his son, Rickey; as well as all 10 of his siblings. He is survived by his son, Darrell (Debbie) Smith of Hines; grandsons, Toby (Tanya) Smith of Burns, Chris (LeeAnna) Smith of Hines, Kevin (Mikayla) Smith of Atkinson, Ill.; step-granddaughters, Lacey Gates of Twin Falls, Idaho and Lynsey (Jayce) Bell of Idaho City, Idaho; nephew, Randy (Connie) Tiller of Hines; and several great-grandchildren, who loved him dearly.  Clarence was a character, with quite a sense of humor, that will not be forgotten, especially since several of the funny things that he has said over the years have become his families’ catch-phrases.

There will be no services, per his request; however, any donations in his name may be made to the Harney County Save A Stray Rescue in Burns.
