Hilander girls sweep weekend games Burns Basketball January 29, 2025January 29, 20250 Brooklyn Montague attempts a shot against Riverside Submitted photos The Burns Hilander girls basketball team crushed both their opponents this past weekend when they made the trip to Mac-Hi and Riverside. In their first game on Friday, Jan. 24, the girls beat the Mac-Hi Pioneers by 43 points, 67-24. Akylah Kaino led the Hilanders in scoring, finishing the game with 26 points, as well as eight rebounds and four steals. Amaya Ballard finished with 19 points, five steals, three assists and one rebound. Caitlyn Horrell scored seven points, finished with three rebounds, had one assist and one steal. Bailey Temple scored five points, to go along with six assists two rebounds and one steal. Skyla Samples scored five points, grabbed two rebounds and had two assists. Natalie Otley-Smith scored three points, and grabbed four rebounds, and Jocelyn Graham scored two points. Natalie Otley-Smith in traffic In their second game of the trip on the next day, Saturday, Jan. 25, the Hilanders blew out the Riverside Pirates by 51 points, 71-20. Kaino led the girls on offense in scoring with 21 points, as well as grabbing seven rebounds, three assists and 10 steals. Horrell finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, one assist and one steal. Temple scored 12 points to go along with eight rebounds, four steals and one assist. Ballard scored six points, had three steals, three assists and two rebounds. Otley-Smith scored four points and had two steals. Brooklyn Montague scored four points and had two rebounds. Samples finished with three points, grabbed four rebounds, had four assists and one steal, and Josie Glasscock score two points and had two rebounds. The girls will finish off this week on the road, traveling to Ontario on Wednesday, Jan. 29, with game time set for 5:30 p.m. (MT) and then to Umatilla on Saturday, Feb. 1 for tipoff set for 5 p.m. Burns is 4-1 in Eastern Oregon League and 11-5 overall and are ranked No. 11 in the OSAA rankings.
