It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gordon (Gordy) Bloomquist on Dec 12, 2024, at the age of 74. Gordy’s passing was unexpected and he passed away while digging clams on Long Beach, Wash. 

Gordy was an avid outdoorsman and he passed while doing something that he loved, this brought some peace to his loved ones.

Gordy is preceded in death by his spouse, Kay Bloomquist. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca (Jeff) Lawson; his granddaughters, Payton and Kendall Lawson; his stepchildren, Mark Peru, Rebecca (Brian) Taylor, and Tara (Joshua) Nathan; and his siblings, Bill (Julie) Bloomquist and Marlene (Roger) Byerly.

Gordy was born to Robert and Dorothy Bloomquist, in Battle Ground, Wash., and was raised working on the family chicken farm. Gordy graduated from Battle Ground High School and remained in the Battle Ground area after graduation as he had deep roots in the community. He was known for his strong work ethic and owned a local farm that kept him busy as he also worked full time. He eventually purchased an excavating and septic business and operated it locally for many years.

After retiring from the septic business, Gordy’s love of the outdoors took him to Burns. There he pursued his passion for farming by running a successful cattle and alfalfa ranch. He eventually retired from full time ranching and spent his time enjoying his recreational interests.

Gordy purchased property and built a cabin in the Malheur National Forest near Burns. Here he shared his love of the outdoors with his family and friends by hosting hunting and camping get-togethers and many wonderful memories were made. Gordy was an avid hunter and traveled to many places in pursuit of new challenges. Destinations included New Zealand, Alaska, Mexico and Africa. Gordy also loved to fish and spent his summers at the coast fishing in the ocean for salmon.

Gordy’s loss is felt greatly and he will be forever missed by his family and friends.

At Gordy’s request, he was cremated and there will be no service at this time. The family will have a private ceremony to spread his ashes as he wished.
