Jacquelyne passed away quietly in her home in Winnemucca, Nev., and according to her request no funeral services will be held. She will quietly be put to rest at the Burns Cemetery next to her husband, Sam Hurd.  

She was born in Morton, Wash., to James M. and Ruth L. (Gloyd) McAllister. She was the oldest of their two children. She moved to Burns with her family and graduated from Burns Union High School in 1959. 

She worked in the offices of Edward Hines Lumber Company until the mill closed and then went back to school at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, to pursue a degree in nursing. She graduated in 1983. Afterwards she began working at Harney County Hospital until she retired in 2002. She then moved to Winnemucca, to be closer to her daughter and her family. 

She worked hard to keep her family cared for and faced challenges head on. She didn’t express emotions or ask for help easily and kept her feelings close. You often didn’t know what she was thinking about something until she was ready to tell you. She was very independent and could be a bit stubborn.  

She had two children, Jeannie and Richard (Rich) from her first marriage to Richard (Dick) Kidwell and added four more girls, Terry, Debbie, Jackie, Becky to the family when she married Sam Hurd. It was at times a busy household. 

She loved her flower gardens and was always working in them and keeping them full of color. She loved to read and visit with friends and family. She traveled to Germany several times to see the world across the pond and enjoyed spending time with Rich and his family there. 

She is survived by her children, Jeannie (Jim) Sykes of Winnemucca, Nev., Richard Kidwell Jr. of Karlsruhe, Germany; her grandchildren, James (Staci) Overton of Hermiston, Ore., Michael (Samantha) Overton of Winnemucca, Nev, David Kidwell of Karlsruhe, Germany, James Sykes II of Winnemucca, Nev.; her great-grandchildren, Skyla Overton, Chianne Overton, Kaycee Overton, Carter Overton, Rhylee Overton, Mailine Deck/Kidwell, James Sykes III; her brother, James McAllister of McAll, Idaho; and cousin, Karen Cavanaugh of Bedford, Va.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Hurd; her parents, James and Ruth McAllister; her stepdaughter, Becky Hurd; and her two older half-brothers, William (Bill) McAllister and Gene Finley.  

She was loved and will be missed but never wanted to be the center of anyone’s attention. This is so much more than she would put in this obituary, but she isn’t here to tell me not to.
