Sandra (Sandy) Joy Weld 1942 – 2024

Sandra (Sandy) Joy Weld passed away on Nov. 10, 2024, in Woodburn. She was born May 29, 1942 in Bowden, N.D., to Boyd and Dora Weld. Sandy has one sister, Sonya Staack, who is 12 years younger than Sandy.

A memorial service was held on Nov. 21, at Senior Estates Golf Course auditorium in Woodburn.

Sandy’s family sold their farm and moved to Elma, Wash., then to Sweet Home. After graduation, she moved to Salem where she worked for the State of Oregon, then moved to Fairview Home for the disabled. After that, she got her degree in education and moved to Bend where she taught at Bear Creek Elementary until she retired. During those years, she won many awards and was requested by many parents.

Sandy moved to Burns in the early 1990s. She worked at the Silver Spur Motel as assistant manager for about one year. She was a substitute teacher at many of the schools in Harney County, she also delivered new motor homes for Monoco, and she drove clients to doctor appointments for DHS. She participated in the bell choir and loved visiting with all her friends. Sandy loved to fish anywhere, any time she got the opportunity and she loved playing cards and games with friends and family.

Sandy also loved to travel. She traveled to Korea, Alaska, an African safari, Sri Lanka, Norway, a cruise on the Danube River, Japan and Italy.

Sandy moved to Woodburn to be closer to her sister and other family members and lived at Country Meadows Assisted Living Center. She enjoyed living there and participated in many activities and made friends. She had a beautiful spirit about the new phase of her life.

Sandy along with her mother and father made their choice to serve God when Sandy was young. She stayed true and was strong in her belief and served with love and joy.

Sandy is survived by her sister, Sonya; brother-in-law, Bob; niece, Sarah (Shawn) Powlison; nephew, Casey (Anna) Staack; several great-nieces and -nephews; many cousins; and great friends.
