Mustangs dominate Union and capture their second consecutive 1A state championship Crane Volleyball November 13, 2024November 13, 20240 Photos by Debbie Raney The Crane Mustang volleyball team won their second consecutive 1A state championship, defeating Union in straight sets 25-20, 25-10, 25-23 at the 2024 OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union 1A Volleyball State Championship held at Ridgeview High School in Redmond on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9. Cara Goss-Bodily serves. Coming into the tournament, the girls dispatched Central Christian in four sets 24-26, 25-22, 25-21, 25-23 on Friday, Nov. 8. Crane then took down St. Paul in the semifinals in four sets 25-20, 17-25, 25-20, 25-17, to advance to the state title game. Kaitlyn Siegner led girls in attacking in the finals, racking up 13 kills. Ava Bowen logged eight kills, Cara Goss-Bodily finished with seven kills, Kamryn Dunten had six kills, while Elaia Idoeta had three kills and Kendal Nichols finished with one kill. Nichols led the team in serving with six aces. Siegner had four aces, Goss-Bodily had three aces and Talina Friedrichsen had two aces. Siegner and Friedrichsen each led the team in blocking with one block each. Nichols finished with 32 of the team’s 36 assists with Dunten picking up two assists and Emily Clark and Bowen each finished with one assist. Kendall Nichols setting the ball. Kaitlyn Siegner was selected as the unanimous pick to the First Team of the All-Tournament Team. Cara Goss-Bodily, Kendall Nichols and Kamryn Dunten were named to the Second Team of the All-Tournament Team. Crane finishes the season as back-to-back state champions and a 30-3 overall record. Only one senior, Elaia Idoeta, will be lost from graduation from this year’s team.
