Get ready to “pound the pavement” at CAN Cancer’s Trail of Hope 5K Fun Run & Walk! The event is set for Saturday, May 11 at the Hines Park pavilion. Check-in starts at 8:30 a.m., and the race will kick off at 9:30 a.m. Bikes, strollers, and well-behaved dogs are allowed to join the runners and walkers on the 3.1-mile loop around the old mill and back to the park. This year’s theme is “Hope In All Colors,” recognizing all types of cancer and their corresponding awareness colors. Colorful ribbon streamers and awareness pins will be given out to participants so they can show their support for local cancer patients. Pre-register for this event by Thursday, April 25 to receive a T-shirt with this year’s theme. Pre-registration through May 9 or race-day registration will NOT include a T-shirt. Registration is $25 for ages 13 and up, and free for ages 12 and under. Forms are available at the Harney District Hospital Admitting Desk and Harney County Chamber of Commerce. Community Assistance for Neighbors with Cancer (CAN Cancer) is a program that provides community assistance to help cover non-medical expenses for Harney County residents fighting all forms of cancer. All proceeds from this event will be used to provide Harney County cancer patients with financial assistance and emotional support as they seek treatment.
