Virginia B. DesIlets 1922 – 2024 Obituary April 10, 2024April 10, 20240 Virginia B. DesIlets passed away on Feb. 23, 2024. She was born in Portland, to Orme and Blanche Dowling on Jan. 2, 1922. She attended Girls Poly Tech High School in Portland. Out of high school, she worked for Meier & Frank, where she meet Frank. Frank was drafted into the Army in 1941. They corresponded for four years, until he was discharged from the Army in December of 1945. He proposed on Valentines of 1946 and they were married on June 1 of the same year. Daddy brought her to Burns in the dark of night. He always said “that way she can’t find her way home.” Virginia was a longstanding member of the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, where she served in many roles. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Harney County Horsewomen. She was a room mother for all of us while we grew up. Mom had a love of horses, we had several over the years. Virginia’s hobbies included sewing, painting, quilting, fishing and gardening. Virginia is survived by her three children, John, Rick and Suzy; grandchildren, Stephanie, Nicholas and Kristen; and seven great-grandchildren. At her request, there will be no service.
