Hayden Cornell pins Omar Vega from Vale.

With over 85 teams competing at the Rollie Lane Invitational, held at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho, on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 5-6, the BHS wrestling team fought their way to a 17th place finish, third best finish from an Oregon school. 

Minico took home the team title, scoring 190 points, while Fruitland finished second with 189.5, Nampa 166.5, Wasatch, Utah 153, Post Falls 147, Bishop Kelly 127.5, Chiawana 124, Lake Stevens 121.5, Caldwell 120.5, Meridian 118.5, Riverton 115, Eagle 114, Redmond 114, Crook County 113.5, Madison 112.5, Bonneville 105.5, Burns 101, Mountain View 100.5, Middleton 96, and Hermiston 95, rounds out the top 20 teams.

With close to 900 wrestlers taking part in the tournament, Easton Kemper placed second in the 182-pound weight class. Kemper lost the championship match in a close decision, 3-1. Joe Weil grabbed fourth place in the 195-pound weight class, ending the day 7-2. Kale Cornell finished sixth on the day with a 4-3 record.
