Hilander boys start basketball season off 4-0 Burns Basketball Burns Sports Sports December 6, 2023December 5, 20230 The Burns Hilander boys basketball team started off the first week of the basketball season with four wins in four nights. The Hilanders hosted Sisters on Wednesday, Nov. 29, to kick-off the 2023-24 year. Burns got off to a fast start, as they took down the Outlaws 62-48. Zane Perry-Kozeni, last year’s Eastern Oregon League Player of the Year, got his first double-double of the season, racking up 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jack Wright finished with 17 points to go along with seven rebounds, and Coltin Miller had seven points and five assists. The next day, the team traveled to Nyssa to take part in the Oregon/Idaho Border Brawl, which was held Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec.2. In the first game on Thursday, Nov. 30, Burns defeated Weiser High School 59-46. Perry-Kozeni logged his second double-double of the season, scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Wright finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Devon Thrall added 12 points. Coltin Miller led the team with eight assists. The second day of the tournament (Friday, Dec. 1) earned the Hilanders another victory. This time, their victim was Payette High School. Burns downed the Pirates in easy fashion, 63-20. Perry-Kozeni was again the leading scorer and grabbed his third double-double, scoring 15 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Wright racked-up 12 points, four rebounds, and six assists. Will Allen had nine points and five rebounds. On the last and final day of the tournament (Saturday, Dec. 2), Burns easily defeated Council High School 68-43. Perry-Kozeni led all scorers with 22 points and seven rebounds. Jaxon Hoyt had 11 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Wright ended the night with four points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Thrall finished with 13 points. Burns traveled to La Pine on Tuesday, Dec. 5. The stats and score were unavailable at press time. The boys will travel to Grant Union on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
