Hilander girls cruise through weekend games

The Burns Hilander volleyball team quickly dispatched Umatilla, Riverside, and McLoughlin in Burns over the weekend, Friday-Saturday, Sept. 22-23.

In the first game on Friday, Burns quickly took down the Umatilla Vikings in straight sets, 25-8, 25-8, 25-3.

Jocelyn Graham, Danye Runnels, and Amaya Ballard led the Hilanders with five kills apiece. Chloe and Myah Rothwell had four kills, while Ashley Wright and Mackenzie King had two. Taylor Trent and Akylah Kaino each finished with one kill.

King had a team-high five aces with 100 percent serve. Graham had four aces with 100 percent serve. C. Rothwell and Hayley Smith also contributed four aces apiece.Wright had three aces and 100 percent serve. Bailey Temple had three aces, and Kaino had one ace.

Temple led the team with five digs. Ballard and Kaino had two, and Graham finished with one.

King and Temple led with nine assists. Wright had eight, while Graham and Natalee Otley-Smith had one.

In the second game, Burns beat the Riverside Pirates in straight sets 25-5, 25-12, 25-8.

Wright and King led the team with seven kills each, while Graham had four kills on the game. Runnels and Kaino finished with three kills. M. Rothwell had two. Trent, Otley-Smith, Smith, and Ballard finished with one kill apiece.

Graham led the Hilanders with 10 aces. Ballard finished the game with six aces and 100 percent serve. Wright and Kaino each added three aces, Runnels had two, and Trent and King finished with one each.

King finished the day with six digs. Temple and Kaino had five digs apiece. Wright finished with two. Graham, Otley-Smith, and Runnels each had one.

Wright led with 14 assists, and Trent picked up eight. Graham, Otley-Smith, and King each had one.

On Saturday, Sept. 23, the Hilanders finished off the McLoughlin Pioneers in straight sets 25-11, 25-11, 25-13.

Kaino finished the game with 15 kills, while King had 14. M. Rothwell added six kills. Graham had five, and Runnels had one.

Kaino led the team again with seven aces. Graham had six, and Trent finished with five. C. Rothwell had four, and King had three.

Smith and King led Burns with seven digs apiece. Kaino added five digs. Trent and Runnels had three, and C. Rothwell finished with one.

C. Rothwell finished the day with 24 assists. Trent picked up five, and Smith had two. Runnels, Kaino, and King had one assist apiece.

Burns moves to 12-4 overall and remains undefeated in league play at 5-0. The girls will take to the road with a league game against Nyssa (6-14, 3-2) on Wednesday, Sept. 27, with game time set for 6 p.m. (MT).
