Peggy Sue Connall 1938 – 2023

Peggy Sue Connall,  84, of La Grande, passed away April 4, 2023 in Pendleton. There will be a graveside service at the Cross Roads Cemetery in Kingsland, Ark.,  date to be determined.

Peggy was born in Kingsland on Sept. 10, 1938. The family moved to Pine Bluff, Ark., where she graduated from Pine Bluff High in 1956. Peggy then traveled to San Diego, Calif., to visit her sister Jean. There she met Robert Connall. They were soon married and after Robert was discharged from the Navy, they moved to Burns. Robert was born and raised in Burns and had numerous family members there. He was soon employed at the Edward Hines Lumber Company.

Peggy and Robert had a daughter, Robin in 1958. Peggy began working at the Sprouse Reitz Variety store in the early 1970s. Within a short time, she became the manager of the Burns Sprouse store and worked in that position until all Sprouse Reitz stores closed in the early 1990s. Peggy then moved to La Grande and started a new career as hospital ward clerk at the Grande Ronde Hospital. She remained at the hospital and retired in 2003.

Peggy traveled frequently to California, Arkansas, South Dakota and Colorado to see her family. She loved and spent much time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Peggy was preceded in death by her father, James Fred Parnell; her mother, Mary (Campbell) Parnell; sisters, Lucille Garrett, Louise Blakley, Dorothy Cantwell, Doris Tainter, Shirley Traxler; and brothers, William Virgil Parnell and Grady Parnell.

Peggy is survived by Robert Connall of La Grande; sister, Jean Taylor of Houston, Tex.; niece, Mignon Burns of Henderson, Nev.; daughter, Robin Mitchell, and husband, Marc of La Grande; four grandchildren, Robbie Winde and husband, Gunner of La Grande, Marcus Mitchell and wife, Sabrina of La Grande, Tessa Allers and husband, Bodine of Cheney, Wash., and Alisha MacArthur and husband, Derek of Spokane Wash.; seven great-grandchildren, Isaac, Elena, Dani, Aiden, Hunter, Tensley and Archer; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

For those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Peggy’s memory, the family suggest the Alzheimer’s Association, The Harney County Library in Burns or the Cook Memorial Library in La Grande.
