P.E.O. funds are used to support women’s education. With spring around the corner, it’s time to update your closet by attending the P.E.O. Re-Style Show & Shop Saturday, March 11, at the Harney County Church of the Nazarene, 311 Roe Davis Ave. in Hines. Admission is free. Donations will be accepted. The show will start at 1:30 p.m. upstairs and will feature a presentation on fashion trends and accessories. Afterward, in the basement, attendees can browse clothes and new and re-styled jewelry available for purchase. All event proceeds will go toward scholarships for women. For more information, check out the group’s Facebook page: P.E.O. Chapter EY, Burns, OR. The group worked hard re-styling donated items to add to the inventory for the show and sale. “It is truly amazing to see how many new pieces can be created from some especially interesting items,” P.E.O. member Laurie Draper said. This is the ninth year P.E.O. Chapter EY has put on the Re-Style Show & Shop event. It is one of the group’s major scholarship fundraisers. Since the chapter started in 1983, Harney County women have received $269,268 in scholarship funds. One of the chapter’s other fundraisers takes place during the holiday season when the group holds a drawing for a handmade wooden chest filled with gifts. This year’s winner was Patty Dorroh. As an international organization, P.E.O. celebrates the advancement of women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and the stewardship of Cottey College. The P.E.O. Sisterhood sponsors six international philanthropies, or projects, designed to assist women with their educational goals. In addition, the organization promotes continued opportunities for leadership and personal growth. It has assisted more than 116,000 women with nearly $383 million through its educational loans, grants, and scholarships. As a result, P.E.O. makes a difference in the lives of women all over the world. To learn more about this organization, go to www.peointernational.org. P.E.O. came to Oregon on Aug. 12, 1905, with the organization of Chapter A in Portland. Six more chapters followed within the next six years. Oregon State Chapter was organized in September 1911. Since then, Oregon State Chapter has grown to 174 chapters with 6,267 members. The Oregon State Chapter Charitable Trust holds three projects, which award scholarships to Oregon women working to further their education at Oregon schools. For the 2022-2023 academic year, $504,000 was awarded to 191 women. Grant, loan, and award recipients — as well as Cottey College students — need not be members of P.E.O.
