Mustangs start High Desert League play 2-0

The Crane Mustang boys basketball team started High Desert League play by hosting the Dayville/Monument team on Friday, Jan. 20.

The game quickly got out of hand, as the No. 1, 1A Crane Mustangs were able to put up 38 points in the first quarter, with a final score of 94-21.

Leading the way for Crane was Cody Siegner who scored 28 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and had six steals. Taylor Krueger finished the night scoring 22 points. Josh Zander scored 17 points. He also had eight rebounds, six assists, and seven steals. Carter Nichols finished the day with a double-double, as he scored 14 points, had 10 assists, and five steals.

The next day (Saturday, Jan. 21), Crane took on Prairie City on the road.

The Mustangs shot 50 percent from the field, as they held off the Panthers 73-54. Siegner and Jared Zander finished with 27 points apiece. Zander picked up most of those points by hitting six 3-pointers. Tommy Jack Rose added eight points. Nichols finished with seven points, 10 assists, and three steals.

The Mustangs are 16-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. They’ll head to Long Creek (0-12, 0-2) on Thursday, Jan. 26 with tipoff set for 5 p.m.
