Burns City Manager Dan Brown submits letter of resignation

Burns City Manager Dan Brown submitted the following letter of resignation to Mayor Jerry Woodfin and the Burns City Council on Sept. 14.

Dear Mayor Woodfin and City Councilors:

It has been my distinct pleasure to represent you, our employees, and this community as your city manager since January of 2021.
During the past nearly two years, we have successfully navigated through a myriad of challenging environments, provided outstanding services to our citizens, commissioned high-level planning documents, obtained millions of dollars in grant funding, implemented community-changing programs, projects, and strategies, and have developed strong and progressive organizational teams focused on managed growth and economic viability.

I truly hope you take immense pride in the fact that the city of Burns is poised to lead Eastern Oregon in housing development and will be viewed across the state of Oregon as a shining example of a community that refused to die. Instead, Burns is revitalizing at a steady and calculated pace.

I am humbled, yet proud, to have played a leadership role in helping to contribute to the positive reputation of the city of Burns, which is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding positions I have held in the past 30 years of serving in government sectors.

I have recently been provided a tremendous opportunity to serve in a role that will allow me to help most cities and counties in the state of Oregon with my education, background, and experience in government functions. Considering this opportunity, I am hereby resigning as city manager, effective Oct. 28, 2022.

Over the next 45 days, I will be collaborating with you and our department directors to plan for a smooth transition of projects, initiatives, and responsibilities in advance of my departure. In recognition of the impact this decision will have on the organization, I strongly urge you to rely on the recommendations of the talented senior staff of the city, as they are your in-house experts and well-trained to continue carrying on excellent service to this community.

I sincerely thank each one of you for the privilege of serving as your city manager, and I wish you, our employees, and this wonderful community the best of success going forward.

Respectfully,
Daniel J. Brown
City Manager
