The Burns Hilander volleyball team hosted Grant Union on Tuesday, Sept. 6 and came out victorious in three straight sets, 25-18, 25-8, 25-21. Mackenzie King led the team with 12 kills. Akylah Kaino finished with 10 kills. Reese Rothwell ended with two. Jocelyn Graham, Danye Runnels, Klaire Theall, Caitlyn Horrell, and Ashley Wright had one kill apiece. Rothwell led Burns with five aces. Macy Temple had three. Halle Houck and Lacie Tiller had two. Kaino led with five blocks. Wright, King, and Horrell had two. Runnels, Theall, and Rothwell had one block each. Temple had seven digs. Houck, Tiller, and Kasey Winn finished with four each. Wright had all 26 of the team’s assists. ••• The Hilanders hosted the Burns Tournament over the weekend on Saturday, Sept. 10, winning it all by defeating Union, Lakeview, and Melba High School in straight sets. In the first game, the Hilanders defeated Union 25-8, 25-6. King was named Player of the Match for her 11 kills and three digs. In the second game, Burns took down Lakeview in straight sets 25-13, 25-14. King led the team with nine kills, Horrell finished with seven, and Kaino had five. King also led Burns in aces and digs with three. In the last game against Melba, Idaho, Burns again came out victorious in straight sets 25-20, 25-23. Horrell ended the night with 11 kills. King had seven, Kaino had six, and Wright finished with one. Horrell also led the team with six aces. Kaino led with three blocks. King had two. Horrell, Theall, and Wright each finished with one. Of the team’s 35 digs, Wright finished with nine, Winn with seven, King and Temple each had five, Tiller and Horrell came away with three apiece, Theall had two, and Rothwell ended with one. The win puts the Hilanders at 6-3 on the season. They open up at home in their first league match against Nyssa (2-5) on Wednesday, Sept. 14. JV is set to play at 4 p.m.
