On Saturday, May 14, more than 100 community members came together to make Harney County a little better!

In Burns and Hines, participants worked on projects at Triangle Park, Harney County Fairgrounds, Crossroads Ranch, and Burns Cemetery. They also provided roadside clean up on Foley Drive, North Broadway, and near the recycling center.

The city of Burns painted the outbuildings at Triangle Park and provided dumpsters at three locations to help locals clean up their residences. C&B Sanitary was also open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, making it easier for residents to clean up their properties.

Paint was donated by the city of Burns and the Harney County Fairgrounds. Big R donated rakes, garbage bags, and gloves. Additionally, ACW and Parr Lumber had in-store specials for those wanting to complete projects.

After the cleanup, a community lunch was held at the Memorial Building thanks to donations from Grocery Outlet, Burns Lions Club, Harney District Hospital, and the Burns Rebecca’s Lodge.

Ruthie Miller of Ruthie’s In His Image Photography donated her time and photographs to the Chamber of Commerce for this event.

In Crane, people came together to clean up the Crane cemetery. They built fences, planted trees, laid bark, and cleaned up grave markers. Fencing material was donated by Reid Ranch, bark was donated by Crane Union High School, and trees were donated by Doman Farms. Additional trees will be sold by the Crane wrestling team as a fundraiser. After a day of hard work, participants enjoyed a community potluck.

Harney County seems to understand that many hands make light work! Together, we were able to make Harney County even more beautiful!
