Introducing the Harney Hub and Harney Hub Transit

Submitted photo

Featuring ‘50s-era decor, Harney Hub’s diner offers delicious and affordable meals to the whole community.

Harney County Senior and Community Services Center and Dial-a-Ride will be going away March 1 to make way for Harney Hub and Harney Hub Transit.

It’s the same great group of committed people operating under a new name. This organization has been the hub of service and supports in Harney County since 1973. The new name honors that history, while propelling the organization into the future. Watch for sign changes and the new logo, as the organization moves forward.

The dining hall is open and serving meals on site Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Renamed The Diner, the dining hall features movie posters and seating that are reminiscent of decor found in a ‘50s-era diner. Harney Hub employees serve as wait staff, welcoming and seating guests who have the option of joining a group of friends, or having a table to themselves. Adding to the diner-like experience, waitstaff will take your meal order and serve you.

Harney Hub is continuing to offer amazing meals for a suggested donation of $4 for those ages 60-plus. Anyone who is under the age of 60 will be required to pay $5.

Harney Hub is also serving full and half luncheon salads on Tuesdays, and a cup or bowl of the Soup of the Day on Thursdays. Please note that these meals are not part of the senior meal program, and anyone who orders them will be required to pay for them, regardless of the customer’s age.

“We are excited to have options for the whole community,” Executive Director Angela Lamborn said. “We invite everyone to come check us out.”

Under the new name, Harney Hub will continue to provide the same services and supports to the community.

An exercise area was added, and the honor library is still available to all. Additionally, the food pantry is open every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Harney Hub employees are knowledgeable and eager to help. If you need a service that isn’t offered at Harney Hub, staff will connect you to resources within the community.

Harney Hub Transit continues to offer public transportation to help you get around the community and visit neighboring areas. A deviated fixed route runs Monday through Saturday, and curb-to-curb service is available Monday through Friday and on Sunday. For hours of service and route stops, ask your driver or stop by the office to pick up a brochure.

Harney Hub Transit  offers a weekly trip to Bend, which is scheduled on alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays. Considering the current price of fuel, this is a great transportation option. You can reach the transit office at 541-573-3030.

Located inside the Harney Hub, the county Veterans Service Office is taking appointments to serve veterans and their families.

“All veterans are welcome to come by and speak to Brian,” Lamborn said. “You served us; let us serve you.”

Lamborn concluded that Harney Hub would like to thank everyone who participated in the name and logo process.

“It has been a fun and exciting time for us, and you made that possible,” she said. “Come on by and take a look. We are looking forward to seeing you.”
