Shane Otley, member of Harney County Farm Bureau, was elected to serve a two-year term as Oregon Farm Bureau’s (OFB’s) second vice president. Otley was elected to the position by the OFB House of Delegates, a grassroots group comprised of family farmers and ranchers representing County Farm Bureaus from across the state. The election took place on Dec. 9 during the 89th OFB Convention at the Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond. “It is a great honor to be elected second vice president of an organization that is an undisputed leader for Oregon agriculture,” Otley said. “Farm Bureau gets things done for farmers and ranchers and helps them stay in business. Advocating for farm and ranch families is my passion, and I’m grateful to have the support of my family and my peers.” Focusing on national affairs is one of the primary jobs of the OFB second vice president. One of Otley’s first duties will be to participate in the national American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) House of Delegates as one of four seated representatives from Oregon during the 103rd AFBF Convention in Atlanta, which will take place Jan. 7-12, 2022. The delegates will work on reviewing and updating AFBF Policy, which guides the grassroots organization’s advocacy efforts at the national level. Otley raises cattle and alfalfa hay and does custom hay work in Harney County. OFB is a grassroots, nonpartisan, nonprofit, general farm organization representing the interests of farming and ranching families in the public and policymaking arenas. First established in Oregon at the county level in 1919 and the state level in 1932, Farm Bureau is organized in all 36 counties.
