Clyas Mahdeen Hammons passed away on Aug. 2, 2021 at Ashley Manor in Burns, she was 96 years old. 

She was born June 1, 1925 in Shamrock, Texas to James “Jim” Van McDowell and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Kuykendall) McDowell and grew up in Shamrock. 

She married Richard Louis Hammons on Feb. 23, 1944 in Sayre Okla. They met while he was in the army and stationed in Texas. 

They welcomed a daughter in 1947 and shortly after moved to Burns. Mahdeen worked for a brief time as a cooks assistant at the hospital and at Slater Elementary School.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Richard; her parents, Jim and Lizzie; a brother, Thomas Hayden; and two sisters, Grace Nadine and Minnie Mary.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Wensenk of Burns; a granddaughter, Wendy McCoy and husband Travis of Prineville; and a great-granddaughter, Emmalie McCoy also of Prineville.

No service will be held at her request.
