Betty “Micky” Jane McDowell Enneberg was born to Amos and Camilla (Smith) McDowell on May 13, 1934 in Camas, Wash. 

She graduated from Camas High School and attended Linfield College for one year. She then went to work at Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill in Camas.

She married Joe Enneberg on April 1, 1955 and in 1956 they moved to Harney County. Anita was born in 1957 and Gil in 1960. In 1962 they purchased the family home in Hines.

Micky loved being a homemaker and mother until her children were raised. She was always involved in their school activities and participated as a member of both Hines Grade School and Burns High School Board of Directors. She was instrumental in establishing the High Desert Park & Recreation Program and served on its Board of Directors for several years.

When her family was raised, Micky went to work at Farrah’s Western Wear, then Western Ranch & Home Supply. She quit work to be “Gran” and help care for grandsons but did part-time work for the Harney County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer.  

In March of 1992, she became the oldest woman to complete training at (then) DPSST. She worked full-time as a Corrections Officer and retired on Oct. 1, 2000.

Micky loved life and had many hobbies and interests. When Joe became involved with the Old Time Fiddlers, Micky was instrumental in the birth of the High Desert Fiddle Contest which evolved into the Jamboree. While she enjoyed experiencing new places, her heart was always at home. In later years, her favorite place to be was on her back deck.

Micky is survived by her daughter, Anita Hunt; son, Gil (Debbie) Enneberg; grandsons, Ross Kemp, Lane (Katrina) Kemp, Dereck (Brittany) Enneberg and Zach (fiancée Sarah) Enneberg; Great-grandchildren, Max, Zoe, Wyatt, and Piper. She is also survived by her brother, Ralph McDowell; and sister, Lynn Gourde. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; and sisters, Frances McDowell and Nellie Reeder.
