Race raises funds for local cancer patients Community News June 30, 2021June 30, 20210 Photos by SAMANTHA WHITE Landon Jones was the overall winner of the Trail of Hope 5K Run and Walk, which was held Saturday, June 26 at the Hines Park Pavilion. The race raised more than $3,000 for local cancer patients. The Lemos family ran and walked in the Trial of Hope 5K to honor the late Mary Lemos. The annual Trail of Hope 5K Run and Walk was held Saturday, June 26. The race, which started and ended at Hines Park Pavilion, raised $3,498.54 for CAN Cancer of Harney County. Administered through Harney District Hospital’s (HDH’s) outreach department, CAN Cancer is a nonprofit organization that provides community assistance to help cover nonmedical expenses for Harney County residents fighting all forms of cancer. Following the 5K, participants and spectators enjoyed an after party in the park featuring local food and craft vendors as well as live music by Bob and Michelle Yunker. The event culminated in an awards ceremony led by HDH Outreach Coordinator Stefanie Wiseman. Landon Jones was the overall winner with a time of 24:07.
