The Burns Paiute Tribe recently constructed a building to house the new Tribal fire engine, which will be put into service soon. The Tribe also donated $35,000 out of its Cares Act funding to the Burns Fire Department to purchase self-contained breathing apparatuses. The Tribe will also need to obtain search and rescue snowmobiles in the future. Burns Mayor Jerry Woodfin stated, “BPT Fire is dependable and is always on scene, has equipment, and is there to assist and support in any way to help with the Burns and Hines fire departments and surrounding areas, if needed. They come to all fires in the Burns and Hines communities, besides their own Tribal community. They’re a big help to the local community. Tribal firemen also attend all the meetings and trainings regularly and take the job seriously.” During the summer months, BPT Fire also helps with rangeland fires.
