Crane Middle School lines up for an offensive play.

Jaxon Hoyt catches a pass from Jack Wright.

Hines Middle School hosted the Crane Middle School football team on Thursday, March 11.

Both teams had to play on one end of the field due to some ice that remained in the south end zone, but it didn’t appear to affect the players, fans, or officials once the game started. Everyone was just excited to see some football back in Harney County.

Crane scored on its first possession when Cody Siegner hauled in a 41-yard touchdown pass from Josh Zander.  The extra point run was no good, and Crane was up 6-0 early. Hines countered on the next possession with a scoring strike of its own, as Jaxon Hoyt caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from Jack Wright. The extra point run attempt was no good, and the score was tied 6-6. Neither team scored again in the first half.

Hines took the lead in the 3rd quarter, as Hoyt intercepted a pass and returned it 65 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. Easton Kemper ran in the extra point, and Hines took the lead, 14-6. On the next Crane possession, a bad snap on 4th down sailed over the punter’s head, and Hines took over on its own 7 yard line.  On the 3rd play of the drive, Kemper scored on a 2-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Jack Wright ran in the 2-point conversion, and Hines was up 22-6.

After another Hoyt interception, Kemper scored his second touchdown of the day from 18 yards out. Wright again ran in the conversion, and the score totaled 30-6.

Crane finished up with Siegner catching his second touchdown of the day on a pass from Tommy Jack Rose. The run attempt failed, and the final score was 30-12, with Hines improving to 2-0 on the year.

Wright completed 9 of 16 passes for 191 yards and one TD.

Hoyt had 115 yards receiving with one score, and Kemper had 85 yards rushing and two TDs.

On defense, Jaxon Hoyt had two interceptions and one touchdown, while Easton Kemper led the team in tackles with 10, including two QB sacks and two interceptions.

Crane will play at Adrian on March 20, and Hines will finish its season at Grant Union on March 18.
