This week, the ‘Artist Behind the Art’ article will be a little bit different. One of the blessings about being an artist and maker is that we often are able to donate the work of our hands to a good cause.

This coming weekend, there will be an online auction benefiting a young couple and their family. There has been a huge response from artists and makers around the region. There will be cowboy gear, home decor, original art, a hand-built knife, plus a lovely mounted longhorn steer head!

Jake and Cheyenne Fowler and their three boys live in Drewsey. Jake became ill in February 2018, and the doctors struggled for more than a year to pinpoint the problem. He was diagnosed with Autoimmune Autonimic Ganglionpathy (AAG), a rare autoimmune disorder in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks and damages certain parts of the autonomic nervous system. This whole process has made things difficult for Jake and Cheyenne, and they are facing many challenges in the upcoming months.

Funds donated and raised will be put toward medical expenses, travel, and the day-to-day expenses that come up in any family. There is an account at U.S. Bank in Burns that is accepting donations. Please ask for the Jake and Cheyenne Fowler medical fund.

Auction organizers will be accepting donations until Dec. 15, and the auction will start on

Friday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. and end Sunday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. The artists have all shared links to this event on our Facebook pages. If you don’t use Facebook and need a copy of the link, contact any of the folks mentioned below.

If you have items that you’d like to donate after the Dec. 15 deadline, please contact Don or Cindy Sitz, Tanya Harris, Levi Harris, or Kate Clark, and they will gather the items. (At this late date, I believe a photo of the item is all they really need.)

If you have any cull cows to donate, please contact Donny Sitz at 541-589-0201, Glenn Harris at 541-589-1172, or Levi Harris at 541-589-2056.
