Gail Patricia Smith 1939-2020

Gail Patricia (Lambert) Smith, 81, of Burns passed away on Nov. 18, 2020.

Gail was born in Silvies Valley on Aug. 11, 1939 to Eunice (Mitchell) and Homer (Pat) Lambert.

Her early years were spent out in Silvies River Valley on the family homestead where her father as a guard at the train trussel. The family moved to town when Gail, aka Pete as many called her, started school. Her youth was spent helping at the family owned business which was then the Texaco in Hines, now known as Hines Market.

Gail graduated from Burns High School in 1957. She married Clarence D. Smith in August 1957. They began their family the following year with their first born son, Darrell R. Smith. Six years later they added their other son, Rickey W. Smith. Gail and Bud raised their children in Hines. Gail was always a very outgoing energetic person. She worked the biggest share of her life in a lot of retail businesses over the years. They moved way to Battle Mountain, Nev. for a period of time and then to Jordan Valley. Gail loved playing softball and volleyball with co-ed teams while in Battle Mountain and Jordan Valley.

Gail and Bud moved back to Burns in the late 1980’s and have remained here ever since. Some of Gail’s favorite things to do was going camping, hunting, fishing, crocheting and time with all of her family.

Gail was a stroke survivor and a stage 4 lung cancer survivor. She fought some really tough battles and won. She was not one to give up and she fought as long as she possibly could.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Homer Lamber; niece, Karen (Tiller) and her husband, Rick Weir and nephew, Mitch Lambert.

She is survived by her husband, Bud of Burns; sisters, Larraine Tiller of Hines, Arlene Williams of Burns; son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Debbie Smith of Hines, son, Ricky Smith of Burns; grandchildren, Toby Smith (Tanya) of Burns, Chris Smith (LeeAnna) of Hines, Kevin Smith (Mikayla) of Redmond; step-grandchildren, Lacy (Gates) Baldazo of Twin Falls, Idaho, Lynsey (Gates) Bell (Jayce) of Idaho City, Idaho; nephews, Randy Tiller (Connie) of Hines; Rocky Tiller of Cresent, Ore.; many great nieces and nephews, numerous great-grandchildren which were the light of her life. She loved watching the great-grandchildren play sports.

Wife, mom, sister, grandma Pete, auntie Pete will be deeply missed by everyone that loved her including countless friends.

As she requested, there will be no service and any donations in her name can be made to our local CAN Cancer organization through Harney District Hospital, which was dear to her personally.
