Robert Dean Smith 1937-2020 Obituary September 23, 2020September 23, 20200 Robert Dean Smith, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away Sept. 14, at the age of 83. Robert was born Feb. 13, 1937, in Fowler, Colo. to Marion and Juanita (Stiles) Smith. His family moved to Burns when Robert was 1 year old. He spent the next 67 years residing in Burns, attending elementary and high school, and graduating from Burns Union High School in 1955. While in high school, he met the love of his life, Doris Skiens. They married June 18, 1955, and spent many years together in the Burns area before moving to Nampa, Idaho, in 2005, and then to Meridian, Idaho, in 2018. Robert and Doris enjoyed over 65 years of marriage. Robert spent his career as a logger, working for Edward Hines Lumber Co. from 1955 to 1994, and Newmont Gold in Winnemucca, Nev., from 1994 to 1999. When there was a little spare time, you could find him enjoying his time either hunting, fishing or camping. After retiring in 1999, they spent several years traveling in their RV and enjoying time with grandchildren. Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Doris Smith of Meridian, Idaho; daughter, Charlotte (Robert) Floro of Bauxite, Ark.; son, Randy (Carolyn) Smith, of Elko, Nev.; son, Douglas (Cindy) Smith of Meridian; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Marilyn J. Knutson of Klamath Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Juanita Smith. A gathering of family and friends was held Sept. 21.
