The necklace on the left was donated, and P.E.O. members created the earrings on the right from it.

P.E.O. members Laurie Draper and Carolyn Bauer work to create jewelry pieces for the chapter’s annual Re-Style event.

During the last couple of months as folks have stayed home to stop the spread of COVID-19, many people have used the time to spruce up their homes and take on spring-cleaning projects. Many people have cleaned out closets and are ready to donate items.

Burns P.E.O. Chapter EY seeks donations of broken or unused jewelry to remake into new jewelry pieces for its yearly Re-Style event. P.E.O. members take the donated jewelry apart, clean it, and form new creations, which they sell as a fundraiser. In March, the Burns chapter made $2,400 off donated jewelry and clothing featured at its Re-Style fundraiser. While clothing donations will not be accepted until next spring, the chapter is currently accepting broken or unused jewelry now.

P.E.O. is a philanthropical organization dedicated to providing educational scholarships for women. The spring Re-Style event is one of the group’s major scholarship fundraisers. Since the chapter first started in 1983, Harney County women have received $269,268 in scholarship money.

To make a jewelry donation, contact Carolyn Bauer at 541-573-7702 or contact any other local P.E.O. member you know.
