Marc Anderson 1935-2020 Obituary March 18, 2020March 18, 20200 Marc Hughes Anderson, known to many as Poppy, Andy or Bud, passed away in the early morning hours of March 4, still holding the love of his life’s hand. An extraordinary man who gave so much to others will be greatly missed. Marc was born July 12, 1935, in Burns. The son of Marc Frank (Sandy) and Leona Anderson, he graduated valedictorian of his class. He later earned a master’s degree with honors from the University of Oregon. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a code breaker. He dedicated his life to helping others. Over 50 years of human services, Marc touched the lives of countless Oregonians. He started in children’s services for the state, followed by vocation rehab and workers compensation. His hard work, knowledge, and compassion helped him to continue serving others beyond retirement as a consultant to those services. He will be remembered for his gentle soul and kind spirit. Marc was an amazing husband and dad. He patiently waited 12 years to marry his soul mate that he told every day he loved her. His hearty laugh and witty sense of humor filled the house with love and joy. He said, “In life there are few things worth fighting over, there are more important things to fight for”. Marc was also a wonderful grandpa, from the moment her tiny fingers wrapped around his finger, they created an inseparable bond. She would crawl into “Poppy’s” lap, lay her ear upon his heart, and he would tell her stories of his youth in Burns and life lessons. They would work in the garden together. He came to every special event in her life and loved being her Poppy. Marc enjoyed gardening, writing, the Oregon Ducks, the sound of the ocean, and homemade chocolate chip cookies. He was a voracious reader and could be found reading five or six books at once. Marc is survived by his sisters, Donna and Dorothy; wife, Sharon; daughters, Jennifer, Heather, and Michele; son-in-law, Martin; and granddaughter, Amelia. Although Marc’s passing is difficult for those of us who are left, we can find comfort looking up at the stars and know he is there. A celebration of life will be held in the spring on what would have been his 20-year wedding anniversary, when his garden is in bloom and our love can be sent to him on the wings of ladybugs. Contributions in his memory may be made to the local animal shelter and humane society, National Park Preservation, Planned Parenthood, or any democratic candidate to defeat the current administration in the White House.
