Matthew Bowen

An important, but often overlooked, aspect of your overall health is mental health. Due to stigma, isolation, misinformation, or an inability to access proper care, many people who struggle with mental illness do not seek help, thus compounding their symptoms. We are excited to begin this series that will, hopefully, help those struggling with mental illness. We will include everything from mental health tips and self care reminders to notices of mental-health-based community events around the county.

For our inaugural article, we want you to feel as comfortable as possible when you come in to visit us, so we are very excited to begin our newest series that introduces our incredible staff! And we couldn’t think of a better clinician to start with than Matthew Bowen.

Bowen says: “I began my work in the human services field while working at a crisis hotline and a homeless shelter in Seattle. That work inspired me to seek more education so I completed a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy (MFT) at University of Rochester in New York in 2015. After graduation, I worked as a mental health therapist in Rochester for a few months before feeling it was time to move my family West again. That’s when Burns found me, and I’ve been a mental health therapist at Symmetry Care since August 2016. I provide counseling for individuals, couples, and families. I also co-facilitate therapy groups, including dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and parenting group. My wife and I have been married since 2008, and we have two children. If you see me around town on my bicycle, give me a wave!”
