Skull 120/60/30 rolls out Saturday, June 15

“America’s Gnarliest Gravel race,” the Skull 120/60/30, will be held Saturday, June 15.

The three races will begin at Triangle Park in Burns at staggered times. The 120-mile race gets under way at 6 a.m., followed by the 60-mile race and 30-mile race at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., respectively.

Lola Johnson, executive director of the Harney County Chamber of Commerce, said she is hoping to have around 200 riders for this year’s event, now in its third year. Last year, the races drew 102 participants, and there are already 100 registered racers for this year.

“We’re getting more registrations every day, and we’re ahead of where we were last year at this time,” Johnson said.

All three races will also end at Triangle Park, followed by an after-race get-together. Juniper Cookhouse will cater a dinner, and there will be a beer garden for adults as well.

Volunteers are needed to help out with timing, checking IDs, set-up and take-down, and various other duties. Johnson said volunteers are needed for two-hour increments from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. If you would like to help out, contact the chamber at 541-573-2636.

The chamber partners with the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service to put on the races as a way to let people enjoy public lands.

“We couldn’t do this without the support of the community, and we do appreciate it,” Johnson said.
