Burns girls track team wins district title, boys finish third

The Burns girls track team won the 3A Special District 3 team championship with 182 points, and will send nine athletes to the OSAA 3A state championship meet. Umatilla was a distant second with 122.5 points, followed by Nyssa with 112.75 in the top three.

The Burns boys team placed third at district with 128 points, and will have seven athletes going to the state meet.

Nyssa won the boys team title with 157 points, followed by Umatilla with 135.

The Hilander girls team will be represented at state by McKenzi Hoyt (3000m, 1500m, 4×400), Olivia Winn (3000m, 1500m), Riley Morris (800m, 3000m), Sayge Root (400m, 4×400), Kaitlyn Wright (400m, 800m, 4×400), Annabelle Johnson (4×400, 300m hurdles, 100m hurdles), Allie Hueckman (javelin, high jump, long jump), Sarah Letham (800m), and Kaiden Raif (triple jump).

The Burns boys team qualifiers are Calvin Bates (3000m), Emmett Klus (400m, 800m, 1500m,

4×400), Klayton Nutter (200m, 400m, 4×400), Zane Taylor (300m hurdles, 4×400, long jump, high jump), JP Friedrichsen (1500m, 4×400), and Ryan Robles and Garrett Goss as alternates for the 4×400.

Those placing in the top eight of the individual events for Burns are as follows:

The OSAA 3A State Track and Field Championships will be held Friday and Saturday, May 17-18, at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham.
