Burns boys golf team runs away with Burns Invitational title

The Burns boys golf team picked up their second victory of the season by winning the Burns Invitational on Wednesday, April 10, at the Valley Golf Club.

DJ Hoke shot 88 to finish fourth in the individual standings and lead the Hilanders to the win. Travis Keady shot 91 (5th), Brady White 92 (6th), Mason Wulff 95 (7th tie), and Adam White 97 (9th).

The No. 2 Burns team finished in second place with a score of 408. Dakota Ceja shot 95 (7th tie), Alex Oberle 102 (11th), Ty Taylor 104, Ethan Peasley-Richardson 107, and Ryan Swann 120.

Grant Union finished in third with a score of 430, followed by Vale with 448, Ontario 456, Burns No. 3 464, Nyssa 469, and Lakeview 475.

For Burns No. 3, Austin Draper finished with a score of 104, Blaise Sansing 113, Bruin Thomas 116, Braeden Swindlehurst 131, and Gabe Portillo 143.

Garret Lenz took medalist honors with a score of 82.

There were only two complete teams in the girls meet, which was won by Grant Union with 514. Ontario was second with 543.

The Hilanders’ Valerie Mallonee shot 123 to tie for seventh place. Hadley Marshall and Victoria Purcella both shot 130 to tie for ninth place.

Tiana Allen of Vale shot 102 for medalist honors.

The Burns boys golf team placed second at the Pendleton Small School Invitational on Friday, April 5, at Pendleton Country Club.

The Hilanders were led by Brady White who finished sixth in the individual standings with a 96. Adam White and Mason Wulff both shot 100, Travis Keady 104, and DJ Hoke 111.

Heppner won the team title with a score of 362, and the Mustangs’ Kellen Grant took medalist honors by shooting 80.

Hadley Marshall of Burns placed sixth in the girls meet, finishing with a score of 111. Valerie Mallonee had 148, and Victoria Purcella 162.

All teams in the girls meet were incomplete except for Heppner.
