Burns girls defeat Nyssa, Vale in EOL play

The Burns girls basketball team stayed unbeaten in Eastern Oregon League play with wins over Nyssa and Vale Jan. 25-26.

On Friday, Jan. 25, the Lady Hilanders hosted Nyssa and came away with a 44-26 win.

Allie Hueckman finished with 18 points to lead Burns in scoring. Mileah SkunkCap added eight points, Shai Skinner and Aundraya Ceja each scored seven, and McKenzi Hoyt and Kaiden Raif had two apiece.

After Burns led 12-2 at the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs chipped away at the lead in the second period, closing the gap to 19-12 by halftime.

The Lady Hilanders took control in the third stanza, outscoring Nyssa 20-11, and led 39-23 going into the final period.

Scoring was at a premium over the final eight minutes as each team scored only one field goal, and free throws made up the difference for the final margin of 44-26.

On Saturday, Jan. 26, the Lady Hilanders traveled to Vale and picked up a 50-46 victory to improve to 6-0 in the league, and 19-1 overall.

Burns continues with EOL play when it hosts Irrigon on Friday, Feb. 1, and Riverside on Saturday, Feb. 2.
