Crane girls win tournament title

The Crane girls basketball team defeated McDermitt, Nev., 52-36 in the championship game of the Alycia Jenkins Memorial Tournament held Dec. 14-15 at Crane Union High School.

The Lady Mustangs were led by Kelsie Siegner with 24 points, who was also named the tournament’s MVP. Riley Davis added nine points for Crane, and Jessica Zander finished with seven.

The Lady Mustangs opened the tournament with a 63-26 win over McKenzie.

Starting the game with full-court pressure, the Mustangs forced a number of turnovers on their way to a 21-7 first-quarter lead.

Crane backed off the pressure in the second stanza, and led 31-10 at halftime.

The Lady Mustangs then outscored the Eagles 15-9 in the third period, and cruised to the easy win.

Davis dropped in 22 points for Crane, Siegner added 18, and Elizabeth Jenkins chipped in with 11, including three 3-pointers.

Crane will be in action Dec. 20-22 when they participate in the Union Christmas Classic. The Lady Mustangs play Cove in the first round at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.

On Tuesday, Dec. 11, Grant Union slipped past Crane 44-43 in nonconference girls basketball action.
