Ronald Graeme McComb Obituary July 11, 2018July 13, 20180 Ronald Graeme McComb passed away June 30. Ron was an artist, a healer, a story-teller, a scholar, an activist, and a toucher of souls. He was generous with his laughter and his compassion, forging strong connections with many people throughout his long and vibrant life. Ron was born in Burns in 1938, and graduated from Burns High School in 1957. After high school, Ron served with the U.S. Forest Service as a fire lookout on Calamity Butte for several summers where he spent his time in solitude, studying the landscape and teaching himself to play the banjo. He attended the Portland Museum Art School in the late 1950s where he developed the unique style of his work. Ron had a passion for progressive politics, social activism, and non-violent pacifism. His commitment to living a life of peace led Ron to refuse induction to the military as a conscientious objector in 1962; a decision which shaped much of the rest of his life. Ron was one of the founding members of the Union Light Company of Seattle, one of the early light show performance groups which took many 1960s rock bands on tour, including The Grateful Dead, Country Joe and the Fish, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, and Frank Zappa. In 1970, Ron was a published illustrator in Ida P. Rolf’s book, Rolfing. In 1971, Ron became a Rolfer, devoting the last 47 years of his life to the care and well-being of others. Ron is survived by his daughter, Siobhan McComb; son-in-law, Walker Dodson; and grandchildren, Tallulah and Wylder. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the ACLU or National Pancreas Foundation.
