(Photos by RANDY PARKS) Twenty-five teams competed for cash and prizes at the 15th annual Harney County Ranch Rodeo on Saturday, July 7, at the Harney County Fairgrounds. The four-man teams competed in six different events, and when the dust had settled, it was the Horseshoe One team of Devon Castle, Leland McDonald, Lou Banderas, and Zeb Burroughs that came out on top. They each received $637 cash and their choice of prizes. Second place went to the Wild Bunch team, Josh Prom, Wyatt Clark, James Norris, and Charlie Smit. They each received $506.25 and a pick of prizes The Shanahan Ranch team, Jack O’Leary, Jimmy VanBelle, David Shanahan, and Jimmy Gallagher, placed third. Each team member took home $375/man and their choice of a prize. 44 Cattle, Erik Steen, Devon Thompson, Justin Allen, and Jeb Ball, was fourth, and they received $243.75 per man plus a pick of prizes. The fifth place team, 06 Livestock, Nick Eiguren, Wyatt Stanford, Lee Stanford, and Nate Easterday, received $112.50 per man. Nic Nyman takes the reins. The prizes for the top four teams were: • Five-star saddle pads from Bella Star Boutique; • Rawhide reins made by Dan Fowler; • Brow band head stalls from Brad Mastre; • Stirrups by Johnny Miller The Top Cowboy/Cowgirl award went to Leland McDonald of the Horseshoe One team, and he received a custom hat made by Gene Baldwin of Sisters. The Top Horse award went to Hector Cruz of the Slim Picken’s team, and he took home a mecate rope made by Merlin Rupp. Event winners and prizes are as follows: Team branding — Moremaker knives from Brad Mastre (4), Maher Ranch (Time 3.26) Saddle bronc riding — Custom hat from Lisa Robinson (1), Clayton Souza (Score 76) Big horn cow roping — Etched knives from Michelle Severe (2 – fast time), Eldridges, Jaylon and Marlo Eldridge (Time 21.06) Ranch doctoring —Ropes from Anderson Valley Supply (4), 06 Livestock (Time 0.48) Trailer loading — Head stalls from Jack O’Leary (4), Arock Ranch (Time 0.40) Horse Roping — Breast collars from Ross O’Sullivan (4), Shanahan Ranch, Jimmy VanBelle/Jimmy Gallagher (Time 20.25) This year, the organizing committee also held a drawing for a saddle made by Rob Frank, and Nate Easterday of the 06 Livestock team was the lucky winner.
